The Middleburg/Mason-Dixon Line Historical Society Monthly Meeting | State Line Ruritan

The Middleburg/Mason-Dixon Line Historical Society will meet at the State Line Ruritan Building, 15481 Park Drive, located off Route 11 at the State Line, PA Community Park.
Guest speaker is Bob O’Connor, an author of Civil War books from Charles Town, WV.
The program will be “Abner Doubleday – The Civil War General Who Did Not Invent Baseball.”
Abner Doubleday (1819-1893) was a career US Army officer and Union major general during the Civil War.
He fired the first shot in defense of Fort Sumter and was in the early fighting at Gettysburg.
In 1907, years after his death, Doubleday was credited with inventing the game of baseball.
While living he never made this claim, later, this claim was debunked.
