31st Annual Miniature Art Exhibition to Open November 6th
CHAMBERSBURG, PA – The Council for the Arts’ “Miniature Art 2015” Exhibition, sponsored by Ludwig’s Jewelers, will open November 6th – in conjunction with the Downtown Business Council’s “Holiday Open House” – with a reception from 5-8 pm. Over 200 original works of art will be displayed: oil, watercolor and acrylic paintings; drawings; and hand-pulled prints and sculpture, many by nationally known artists. The Council, in operation since 1987, supports local artists and arts organizations at its Gallery at the Capitol Theatre Center, 159 S. Main Street in Chambersburg.
“We received over 300 miniature works of art this year,’ explained Exhibit Coordinator Anne Finucane, “that were created by 93 artists from 21 states. We advertise nationally, and always receive entries from artists all over the country”. Judge and juror for this year’s show was Brian Young of Baltimore, MD.
Since 2011, Brian Young has served as the curator, University of Maryland University College in Adelphi, MD. Having earned his BA in the History of Art from the University of Michigan and his Masters Degree from The Ohio State University, Brian has also served as the curator at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Maryland; Cranbrook Art Museum, Bloomfield Hills, MI; and the Arkansas Arts Center, Little Rock, Arkansas.is an Adjunct Assistant Professor for Art History, UMUC in Adelphi, and his teaching experience also includes Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, OH and Salisbury University in Salisbury, MD. He recently served on the Advisory Board for Maryland Art Place, and is a contributing writer for Bmoreart.com.
Miniature Art 2015 will be on display at the Council from November 6 through January 8, 2016, with gallery hours Tuesday-Friday 10 am-2 pm, and by appointment. Holiday season visitors should call to check open hours: 717-264-6883.
