James Rada is the March Speaker for Allison-Antrim Museum and will present a PowerPoint “The Blue Ridge Baseball League” on Thursday, March 9 at 7 pm, in the bank Barn at 365 South Ridge Avenue in Greencastle. He will focus on how the league changed baseball and compare how the game was played then and is played now.
The Blue Ridge Baseball League operated from 1915 to 1930. It fielded teams from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia, including teams from Greencastle, Chambersburg, and Waynesboro. Not only did at least 100 players move on to play in the Major Leagues, the league itself introduced many new innovations to baseball that are still used today.
James Rada, of Gettysburg, is a freelance writer and multi, award-winning author with many works of historical fiction and historically-based books, including Saving Shallmar: Christmas Spirit in a Coal Town; Canawlers and Battlefield Angels: The Daughters of Charity Work as Civil War Nurses; and Clay Soldiers: One Marine’s Story of War, Art, & Atomic Energy.
