Franklin Votes is hosting the 2nd Annual Fly Into Action Kite Festival on Saturday, October 21 from 11am-3pm at the Nitterhouse Soccer Complex, 375 W. Washington St., Chambersburg. The Kite Festival is free and open to the public, featuring music, crafts, games, and kite-flying fun. Free kites will be given to the first 200 attendees.
The Kite Festival is held in conjunction with Chambersburg Applefest, the annual downtown fall festival coordinated by the Downtown Business Council. A free shuttle provided by the Chambersburg Memorial YMCA will run between the two events starting at 10:45am. Families can park once and enjoy both events! Shuttle stops are located at the Southgate Shopping Center sign and the parking lot of the Nitterhouse Soccer Complex.
Local kite enthusiasts, George and Sam Adams, will be there providing kite-flying demonstrations. They can also answer questions and provide tips for flying kites.
The Franklin County Library System’s Bookmobile will also be at the festival, providing access to hundreds of books and children’s programming. Each kid will also receive a free book!
Other Kite Festival activities include kite-making crafts, coloring, an obstacle course, outdoor games, temporary tattoos, a DJ, and plenty of space to fly your own kite. Guests are welcome to bring their own kites, as well as fly their free kite provided to the first 200 attendees.
