Children of all ages will be dreaming of sugarplums this holiday season, when the Chambersburg Ballet Theatre (CBT) presents its original version of the traditional family favorite, “The Nutcracker” at the Capitol Theatre in two matinee performances on Saturday and Sunday, December 17th and 18th, at 3:00 p.m.
A cast of more than 40 local dancers, including CBT Company members as well as Guest Children from the CBT School, was chosen by audition in September for roles in “The Nutcracker.” Choreography, costume design, and production direction are by Artistic Director Lavinia Reid, with the aid of Ballet Mistress Ruth Mugg, Rehearsal Assistant Beth Skroban, and a team of volunteers who help with costumes and backstage needs. Guest Artist Peter Doll, who has danced with the Miami City Ballet and other professional companies and currently dances and teaches ballet in Atlanta, will perform the roles of The Nutcracker and Nutcracker Prince. Allen MacNeill, a veteran Shakespearean actor who has performed Ms. Reid’s “Nutcracker” for over 30 years at theater venues across upstate New York, will portray Herr Drosselmeyer.
Tickets for “The Nutcracker” are $14 for adults, $10 for students, $10 for seniors, and free for children under 5-years. Tickets are available online through the Capitol Theatre Box Office.
The CBT Company, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, was established in 1999. Its two-fold mission is to provide educational and performance opportunities for student and adult dancers, and to educate dancers and public audiences alike in the appreciation of dance as a universal art form, transcending boundaries of race, age, gender, and social position.
